shopping2scale Wreaths Craftshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06324657362848984022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4267639350968400254.post-31398111378726416312017-09-18T09:07:00.000-04:002017-09-18T09:07:49.179-04:00Checking the TaTas and more

GMA did a segment on the new at home test for breast cancer. I had this test completed and awaiting results. This was a simple test (just spit saliva in a plastic tube-painless) this test was prompted due to Tammy having ovarian cancer.

My family/friends please go the extra mile to have yourself checked out!! My grandmother had cancer several of her siblings had cancer. My mother didn't and I thank goodness. However my dad did.

Since I've been having mammograms, when I would provide history and the high risk on my grandmothers side the Dr's would say that's not close enough relation. Well now in my opinion for what it's worth, I believe that to be different. Especially with today's technology.

The different tests that are available for us to do. No, It doesn't say we will develop cancer, it will screen for the possible gene, pick up a detection if there is any. The doctors can focus on those areas when future exams, tests come up. Try to be proactive when it comes to reference to any detected possibilities. This test not only checks for ovarian, breast cancer it checks other areas as well.

After my changing of Dr's this year and a tumor being found, sent to an oncologist with surgery being performed a couple more tumors being found during surgery, the tumors were benign.

What If????? I hadn't decided to go with my gut feeling, seek out a different Dr, that took my concerns seriously, especially when advising them of the loss of my sister????

Family/Friends, please...I wouldn't want anyone to have to go through the loss of a loved one especially to this nasty disease. After Tammy passed Lil Sister, began researching for genetic testing. However before we could have it done. Tammy's daughter would have to have it completed then we could proceed. Upon my follow up to the oncologist the family practitioner suggested that I talk with my gynecologist when I go for my next years exam.

Lil sister was able to get paperwork sent to my niece and she has had the test performed. I took it upon myself to go ahead and have it done this year since I had already met my deductibles, etc.

I bring this to your attention because I care deeply about everyone, and want you to know there are tests available. Men this goes for you as well. Mention to your Dr's when you go in for your exams, or call them and ask about it. Some offices don't perform the test. you will have to check with them. I'm currently awaiting my results, I found out friday they are in, just need to have the Dr. read them and then contact me. I'll keep you posted as to the results, either way. Good, Bad or Ugly.

However, you know.....I know someone that has this....God has really been good to me, especially this year,,, he has carried me when I wasn't able to carry myself, think for myself, do for myself.... My current therapy is Crafting if you haven't noticed. I'm not working so I"m taking full advantage of the blessings I've been given....

TaTa for now...

I love each and everyone of youshopping2scale Wreaths Craftshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06324657362848984022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4267639350968400254.post-72675347195391165892017-02-10T06:57:00.000-05:002017-02-10T06:57:43.570-05:00Reminiscing on the road!!!As I make my way down the road taking a mental day to regroup my thoughts I can't help but think about all the neglecting of things I love to do.

Having put them on the back burner for sometime while enjoying the time with my sister I would not have traded that time or trade it for anything in this world those are precious sweet memories

That will in turn keep me motivated on such days I don't have the strength or courage to put 1 foot in front of the other. Passing by a rest area seeing all the truck drivers pulled over resting, brings me to thinking about my sister Tammy and how many miles had she traveled across the country in one of those big rigs having logged a many of a mile. Having always traveled safely and returning to her family. After seeing a accident on the local news just this week knowing it could have easily been her during her many travels. I'm so grateful it wasn't my heart goes out to those families that are less fortunate. She always worked hard and put 110% in anything she set out to accomplish if I accomplish a tenth of that I will be grateful. She was a part of the Thelma(Tammy) and Louise (Lisa) road team the last several years.

It's with deep sadness that we will no longer be fulfilling those short road trips together. You see she was taken too early by that nasty cancer disease on 11-23-16. She will be greatly missed but still with us as our guardian angel. But one day I will be running the streets of gold with her.

Why now after a few years of being alienated am I returning? Well it has to do with a few loves.....

My younger sisters ambition for the love of writing you see shes written for several years and pretty good at it. How I wish she could have met my friend "Bill" she would have gotten along well with him. He being the history enthusiast and she loving history.

Yeah the 2 would have hit it off.. she's working on getting her work out there and I hope that I to start getting a little more in tune with my audience trying to bring them different areas of encouragement perhaps post a few of my many talents for you to enjoy.

Perhaps I'll even bring her on as a guest... Please let me know your thoughts on that. We can interview her and you can learn about her penmenship. I've probably lost a few along the way with my rattling just wanted to let you know I was still here kicking and well moving right along with life missing my sister tremendously

. I will be introducing you soon to a very near future author.. please do come back to meet Kimbetly Hammersmith Wiseman as we crank up our blog. I'm looking forward to updating my look as well. Ive really missed everyone.

Stay tuned.

And I ll leave you with my favorite from before TaTa for now...shopping2scale Wreaths Craftshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06324657362848984022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4267639350968400254.post-75831350819841919792012-10-04T04:59:00.000-04:002012-10-04T04:59:07.063-04:00Thankful Thursday!!!!!!As my dad used to say, my feet have hit the floor and I'm above ground, Another day to be thankful for.. And so with that being said, Being thursday and all.... Its a busy day for me, I'm very grateful. On facebook I am in a group for bariatric support and a few days ago, once of the ladies, felt like sharing a story. And I have asked for permission to share it with my friends. So having been out of the loop for a while, I'll kick it back into gear with a little laughter to make your day...... I'll be back again... Let's get this party back on track,,,,,

<h5 class="uiStreamMessage userContentWrapper" data-ft="{"type":1,"tn":"K"}">
<span class="messageBody" data-ft="{"type":3}">JUL 12 THE FART THAT (ALMOST) ALTERED MY DESTINY

Written by Anna.

Like everything in life, farts have a time and place. However, I never
realized that in the wrong time and place, flatulence had enough power
to alter my course in history. Well, it can if it’s the third date with
the man of your dreams. And, if it makes his eyes burn. If God destined
us to be together, I was one SBD away from foiling His plans (that’s
“Silent But Deadly” for you prudes).

It was about five years
ago. I was trying to lose a few pounds so I was staying away from carbs.
That’s when I met my husband, Rob. On our first date, he booked the
next two. He liked me. I liked him. Things were looking real good.

He picked me up in a Cobra, Mustang and his pathetic attempt to win me
over with a car totally worked. I’m not shallow, but since I spent most
of my twenties picking men up because I didn’t want my hair to frizz in
their non-air conditioned jalopies on 3 wheels and a 15 year old spare, I
welcomed his fancy sports car with open arms.

We arrived at
the restaurant and Rob was ordering food I hadn’t allowed myself to eat
in years. I didn’t want to be “that girl” so I ate, drank, and oh, was I
merry. Later we shopped a bit. Rob surprised me by buying an expensive
pair of shoes that he caught me eyeing. Was this love?

That’s
when it happened. Gas strikes in two different ways – uncontrollable
toots or sharp, shooting pains that feel a lot like dying. I thought I
was dying. Not to make a scene, I told Rob I suddenly wasn’t feeling
well and probably needed to head home.
On the way home in his Cobra,
he tried to hold my hand and ask me lots of questions, but I wasn’t
having any of it. The pain was so bad it felt like I was being stabbed
with a bunch of tiny forks. Then I realized …

My God, help me. I have a horrendous fart on deck. I’m in trouble. Big trouble.

The more I held it in, the more pain would shoot through my stomach and
down my legs. I was even having to raise myself off the seat, gripping
on to my door and the dashboard.

“Seriously, you need to hurry – I’m in a lot of pain.” I managed to say through gritted teeth.

“Wow, it’s that bad? What’s wrong? Do I need to take you to a hospital?”

How do you tell a man you just started dating that the reason you’re writhing in pain is because you have to fart?

Well, you can either tell him, or like me, let the fart speak for itself.
People, hear me. There was nothing I could do. As impressive as I am
with sphincter control, this was out of my hands. Slowly, it eeked out.
The more I tried to stop it, the more it forced it’s way through the
door. However, to my pleasant surprise, there was no sound. I sat
silently, sweat accumulating above my upper lip. Ok, maybe I got away
with it. Maybe I’m home free. Then it hit me. Not an idea, a cloud. A
horrific, fart cloud. Not in a, “am I smelling something?” sort of way.
More like a “is someone dead and rotting in your trunk and am I in
hell?” sort of way.

Suddenly, I panicked. “Roll down the windows!” I screamed (yes, I literally screamed it like I was in a horror movie).

“What? Why?” Rob asked, starting to freak out because I was freaking out.

“I can’t roll down the windows, unlock it! UNLOCK IT!”

“What’s going on?” Rob yells back to me, “Why are you …” then it hit
him. I could see it in his eyes. Was it surprise? Horror? Water started
to accumulate at the base of his eyelids, “Oh my God, I CAN TASTE IT!”
he screamed.

“Roll down the windows!” As I screamed, the toots
started to flood out uncontrollably. I scratched and clawed at the
window like I was being kidnapped. Rob, unable to see either by fart
cloud or panic, kept turning on the windshield wipers instead of
unlocking the window.

It was chaos. We were acting like we were under siege by gun fire. We were under siege alright, just not by gun fire.
Finally he was able to hit the right control and he rolled down our
windows. We both gulped in fresh air. I was horrified, yet happy to be
alive, then remembered I just farted on the man of dreams, then sorta
wished I was dead.

We sat silently for the rest of the way
home. Although the shooting pains had subsided, I now desperately needed
to use the bathroom, in an urgent, explosive kind of way.

He
pulled up to my apartment and before he could come to a stop I had
already jumped out, “Ok, thanks for dinner, sorry about the fart, love
the shoes!” and ran in to my apartment like I was running from the cops.

I burst through my door and ran straight for the bathroom, where I was
finally able to unleash and make noises that no one should ever, EVER,
hear coming from another person.

Then I heard it. Rob’s voice. Right. Outside. My. Bathroom. Door.

“Anna? You left your shoes in my car and your front door was open. Where do you want me to put them?”

“Get away from the door!” I scream like Reagan from The Exorcist.
“Ok, I’m sorry. Are you okay?”

*toot* *toot* *splatter* *ungodly noise*
“I’m fine, Rob – just leave the shoes there. I’ll call you later okay?”

“Okay, are you sure you’re …”

“I’m fine! Get away from the door!”

This man! I mean, I love him, but take a freakin’ hint!

Finally, I heard the front door shut, and the Cobra engine zoom away. I
thought that was the last I’d hear from him. I didn’t think it was
possible to ever see a man again after he screams he can taste your fart
after only knowing you for 48 hours.

But, to my surprise, I
did. A couple days later, actually. Now we’re married and he’s laying on
the couch while I type this … “It was your rack that saved you,” he
just lovingly reminded me.

A WOMAN'S WEEK AT THE GYM

If you read this without laughing out loud, there is something wrong with you. This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine

Dear Diary,
For my birthday this year, my husband purchased for me a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

Friends seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep adiary to chart my progress.
________________________________
MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 am. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god-- with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!

Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines.. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around.

This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!
________________________________
TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It's a whole new life for me.
_______________________________
WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn't try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.
Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.
My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other shit too.
_______________________________
THURSDAY:
Asshole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn't help being a half an hour late-- it took me that long to tie my shoes.
He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny bitch to find me.
Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine-- which I sank.
_________________________________
FRIDAY:
I hate that bastard Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anaemic, anorexic, little aerobic instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.
Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don't have any triceps! And if you don't want dents in the floor, don't hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn't it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?
________________________________
SATURDAY:
Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel..
________________________________
SUNDAY:
I'm having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun-- like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!
Send this to a friend who needs to laugh. We all need a good laugh,,, See I told you, you would be laughing........ Now please go and like this and share it.... with others
This household needs to be decluttered. With that being said, I am putting that to be my 1st task on my list. Now will I complete that immediately, well no because it took some time to get to the place where it is now, but I am making it a priority.

"Finish List"

* Declutter the house ---- room by room
* Sort through the many items that are needing to be given away, and discard them before I have the thought" oh I might need that one day" No give it away...
* Clean up my shop and go through the totes, organize, donate, keep or put up where they need to go
* Bring out the beads and finish up the jewelry that has been started and not completed. This might actually be good, I will be ahead of the game and be able to create some Christmas gifts for 2012.
* Finish the quilts that I have started, 4 to be exact....
*blog on a weekly basis, if not more than that
*Post some coupon deals for my friends, that are really good on "my favorite deals page"
* crochet a few hats that I have been intending to make to give away to the veterans groups
*start crocheting small angel ornaments to give to the nursing home for their country store so that they will be able to make a little revenue from them to help with the residents activities. I have been wanting to do this for a while now
*Start my sewing projects for my etsy store that I'm wanting to open up
* learn to organize my time for better
* learn to make lists to better myself with the activities, tasks that I need to focus on
*make time to walk more often
* find time to volunteer more often
*Read more books on my kindle
*download more music to my mp3 player
*Create my cookbook with my mothers favorite recipes
May this be the best year you have had in a while. I'm going to start by taking some advice that one of my bloggers suggested. Make this the year to finish things you have started.
A bucket list so to speak. So I started it off right. I made a trip that I have needed to take for 3 years. I want to say that I have 1 mission accomplished. Many more to come. I want to thank each and everyone of my followers/friends for sticking by me. I've been in a bit of a rut for a while. However, I'm going to be putting on my list a "to be finished" Tasks that I have started and not completed. Hopefully together we can do this together. So with that being said. Please take a moment to reminisce on projects you have started and needed to have completed and haven't and maybe we can get it accomplished together.

I'll be back in a day or so. This will be one of my many "to be finished" tasks, To come back more often, hold myself accountable......

tah tah for now. I love you.. And wish the very best of 2012 to you.....shopping2scale Wreaths Craftshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06324657362848984022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4267639350968400254.post-12027867323414707682011-09-18T04:33:00.001-04:002011-09-18T04:37:46.458-04:00Recognition Day!!!!Deciding to write or not to write about the Recognition day... So Here it is. I've decided tooooo.... And I feel a little better. How it came about... My friend that I worked with and grew to love as if he was my family was so distinguished. This man was a well know author. Having been through the military himself, being a owner of a Newspaper and becoming an author after retiring doing what he loved. He and his wife picked the town of Cleveland Tn. To lay down their final roots in.

We met in the most unusual way. I was a receptionist/clerk at the job that I'm at now. I knew who this man was, due to my dad being in the military and having done a little research for my dad. And also about that time my friend having had his book being turned into a Best Selling Movie. He walked in to visit one of the ladies that was helping him to promote the beginning of the premier that was to become a part of our towns history. She was the mayor wife.

As I contacted his acquaintance that he was to meet we began to chat and I mentioned that I admired him for writing about his experiences and having them published for our future children and their children and mentioned my dad, as well as him being a Korean War Veteran. In those few minutes that we spoke before his acquaintance arrived, I just didn't know it but this had began our friendship. He would continue to come in on occasion. Then I moved into a different position in a different building and lost contact with him for about 8 months.

One day while I was making a trip over to the building he was sitting in the lobby waiting on his friend. I stopped and spoke with him and gave him a hug. He was so tickled to see me as I was to see him. That afternoon, while I was checking my mailbox at work. There was a card, when I opened it up. It read " It was so good to see you today, I have missed your smiling face at the front desk, I'll keep in touch." Well now that just brightened my day.

A week or 2 went by and I hadn't heard from him and I was helping on a service project here in town Tunes for the troops we were at the post office to help unload the boxes for shipping. While unloading I saw the Red Cadillac that he drove pull up to drop off mail. I excused myself from the unloading process for a moment to jump down and stop my friend and speak to him giving him a hug. He was thrilled to see me and ask about what I was doing. And I explained. Well now he says. I knew there was something special that we had in common besides your dad's military experience. We chatted a moment, and I got back to work finishing the other crew with the unloading process.

On the following Monday, there was another letter in my mailbox. Saying how good it was to see me and that I had made his day, to stop what I was doing just to say hi. That day forward he began to send me notes asking for a little help in some research that he was doing, he didn't tell me what he was doing. And I have always been one to not pry. Then one day he asked, I could really use some help with some typesetting on a project. At the time, I didn't even know what typesetting was... I know now. The rest to come......

Checking on when his birthday was, he told me he no longer has birthdays, he has recognition days.... It took me running into one of his friends at the post office one day to find out when his recognition day was. And it was only a few days away... so I came home and made him a homemade birthday card, with the cover on it being one of his books, I preceded to write a message on the inside of why this was such a special day. I stamped it with a doggy print and a birthday message, that read:

To my special friend William B. Breuer, In Recognition of your special day...

Love always your friend

Mona Lisa

Rest in peace my friend, I love and miss you....He was the author of 41 published books, And the block buster seller "The Great Raid"....shopping2scale Wreaths Craftshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06324657362848984022noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4267639350968400254.post-86204855493233060582011-09-14T22:13:00.000-04:002011-09-14T22:13:27.114-04:00HowDeeeee!!!!!HowDeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who was it that used to say that???? Minnie Pearl perhaps???? I just loved watching that little lady....

Well I'm checking in to see how everyone has been getting along. I'm loving that the weather is beginning to cool down. And I can start getting out and enjoying the outside more. Love to walk when its cooler outside and enjoy the scenery. Well I started the 5 day pouch test again, as you know I have done this before with success of getting back on track with my eating habits. I'm now into day 3 and doing good. I started on my soft foods today, tuesday evening, I made the creamy turkey soup and WOW I was amazed at the taste.

My husband has been doing most of the cooking the last 2-3 years due to him getting off at 1:00pm and I don't get off til 5:00pm. Of course he goes into work at 4am. Works out pretty good for me. I've enjoyed it. Down fall is he knows that I can't eat just anything and he will cook 2 meals most of the time. He tries to make sure I get in my meals. He also eats when he gets it cooked, and then eats again when I arrive. So I told him sunday we are going to change it up a bit.

After getting off I've came in and cooked meals that were low in carbs/sugars. And healthier than he is used to eating. When I made the turkey soup last night, he was shocked as well as myself that something that tasted that good was good for you.... I showed him the breakdown of calories, carbs, etc. So instead of the usual salads that I send him everyday for lunch when I pack our lunches, I fixed him soup. He told me today that one of his co-workers wanted to know what he was eating today, because it smelled so good.

This evening, I made tuna salad and cut up a tomato and topped it with the tuna. Since I have a hard time eating fish, I've been trying to get up the courage to try the tuna again. I ate about 2 Tbs and that was it for me. So that means 1 of 2 things. My pouch is tightening up or I just couldn't do anymore of the tuna. I think it was both.. Which is good. That means my tool that the Dr. provided me is still in place and working like it should be. I just need to control it. I am on a mission to do just that. Today I managed to drink 16 oz of water, 8oz of juice, 8oz of hot/sour soup, 8 oz of cream of turkey soup. 4 egg whites, and of course the tuna, (gulp)....

After we finished our supper, my husband put a roast on in the pressure cooker for Italian Roast beef, so he will be able to eat it tomorrow since Thursdays are usually a long day for me. Then I will just heat up some cream of turkey soup or a pc of chicken, and may even make me a protein shake. That should tide me over. Friday I will introduce my pouch to a more normal meal. And begin to control myself. And that being day 5. That's an accomplishment.... Yeah, that will mean I am in deed back on track, and I need to stop grazing.....

I'll get off of here for now. But as for my mission that I started while I was on vacation I completed everything except defrosting my freezer and I'll have to make that a priority before long. As hunting season is right around the corner and the hubby is packing already for his upcoming trip at the end of the month.... So I anticipate venison coming soon. So 1 of the 2 freezers has to be cleaned and room made for it.

Til another day....
Tah Tah for Now.

Kicking up my feet and watching Madea's Big Happy Family... Enjoying the afternoon in a quiet atmosphere. Wow, Tyler Perry is very talented. I just love his movies. So far I haven't been disappointed. And this one is hilarious.

Chilling should mean I've completed my missions. Well not all of them, they are still progress in the making, but I did make a dent in them. Does that count? I think so considering the results, and I do see some. Made a few changes to my check off list. Managed to make a quick road trip to the cloth store in Huntsville, Al. I wanted to go further but I really wasn't feeling like that length of a trip. So I'm going to plan it again some time soon.

I picked up the material and lace that I wanted and the ladies there at the store were so helpful. One Lady even found me a pattern to go with the project that I'm going to be making. I was tickled. I can't wait to get started. I think the dining room table is going to become my work space for a little while. I'll lay out the material first cut it and then do the pinning there. Then set the sewing machine up and go from there. I think this will work out for the best. I picked up lavender, pale yellow, red, light pink, and turquoise material.

Now learning how to sew it will be a challenge, I haven't ever sewn that type of material before. When I had the machine serviced they set it up to sew the type of material that I would be sewing on it for me. That's a good thing, as I haven't ever messed with the tension, or different stitches other than straight or zigzag. Have I told you that I have been really lazy this week in some ways and other ways accomplished some of my tasks. Here is my list that has been revised again. Tomorrow, I think I'm going to take care of the biggest challenge on my list, "the freezer"....

<strike>cleaning house-yuck... this is the worst</strike>, <strike>so I'm starting with it 1st and doing</strike> a room at a time **** <strike>3 rooms down**** 2 rooms down***</strike> 1 to go

I have dearly missed chatting and corresponding with you. I had high hopes of getting back in gear, Somehow someone else had something else in mind for me. As my previous posts read. We managed to get the swimming pool up and have been enjoying it tremendously in the evenings with this Hot heat that we have been having.

My oldest son lost another baseball buddy of his. My heart goes out to these fine young men's families and pray that they find comfort in some of their memories that we shared. Last week my cousin lost her husband, And I feel so helpless being so far away. However, my thoughts and prayers have been with her.

I've still been couponing and finding good deals. And my hopes are to start getting together some deals to share with everyone. I would also like to finish up our series on the gastric bypass. Hopefully I have shared some valuable information with you. Have you had any thoughts maybe even questions that maybe I can help answer or help to find an answer for you. Let me know. Several months ago I had fell and was trying to ignore my shoulder pain that I was having.

My mother used to say "ignore it, It will go away" I tried this and sometimes, it just doesn't go away it continues to haunt you at times. So I finally made my self an appointment and went to the Dr. Good thing I did, I had bursitis and a pinched nerve. He gave me some anti-inflammatory meds and the next day, I felt like a young chickadee again. What a difference it made. I ran across some of my moms recipes that she had been collecting for several years and that she had started putting on the computer to start her a cookbook. We often spoke of creating a cookbook. I would like to fulfil this dream of hers.

I would need some creative ideas for a name of course. Perhaps some of you might share some thoughts as to a good title. Guess everyone is also getting ready to send their students back to school. Here In Tn, tax free weekend will be August 6th, 7th and 8th. You can really get some good deals. I really can't think of anything that I really need, just thought I would remind others. So maybe they could save a few dollars. Keep it in your pockets. Don't forget to go to some of the retailers websites, sometimes you can print off coupons, for example. Michaels' has a 40% off one item on their website that I saw that would help toward some locker items for your youngster. Or storage for their school supplies.

Well I'm going to move along for now, I'll be back, I promise, and hope to continue sharing, Please drop by or send me an email and let me know what everyone has been up to. I would love to hear from my friends.

If you think of a topic you would like for me to touch on or perhaps needs help with couponing drop me a note. I love to help and share with others.
I do apologize for the neglect of my blog, I got a little sidetracked after vacation. Whew I'm ready to get going again. What has everyone been up to? We recuperated from vacation, my hubby's work hours changed to an hour later. So instead of me getting up at 2:15 am, I'm getting up at 3:15 am, now you wouldn't think that extra hour would make a difference but After this body has gotten adjusted to the wee hours for years, then change comes, It has to adjust, as I'm not as young as I used to be. Yes, I've also gotten a yr older since we last chatted.

No I don't feel any older mentally but my body some days thinks otherwise. Has everyone been keeping track of what they are eating? I've tried, I haven't been writing everything down, but just trying to gage at what I'm in taking. I've just about weaned myself off of the carb cravings. I'm back on my water kick. And thats a plus. Everyone should be drinking extra water these last few weeks especially with the weather being as hot as it has been.

This evening we received a very welcomed rain. Cooled things off a bit it did..... Its hard to believe that It's already June 2011.. Riverbend is gearing up starting friday and Yes I'm on my way. Taking off a bit early so that I can get there and perhaps find a good place to set up. Then, On Saturday, I'll be standing in line with excitement, in anticipating getting a shot to be a Wheel of Fortune contestant. Wish me luck. (Good luck Lisa), I love this show. And hope I have a shot at making it. I've always wanted to go and be a contestant. So since I haven't been able to go, They are bringing it to me..... (lol) yes they surely will be calling Lisa Simmons to come on down.

No wait thats the price is right.... Well they will be calling me to come and put a SPIN on the wheel, guess some letters and solve the puzzles. I've been practicing. As for my world of couponing, Its still alive and well. Just slacked off a bit and letting my stash dwindle down a bit. This week Bi-lo is being so generous to us. They had an incorrect ad placed stating they would double up to .99 cents. Now they normally only double up to .60 so that should make for some really good deals. I'm going after the peter pan peanut butter. (with the .50 coupon that is out Free peanut butter) or tax only. Woohoo....

On another subject we finally got the pool set up, I'll post a few pictures later this weekend while I'm off and updating my blog. Signing off for now. But keep in touch and thank you so much for being patient with me while I recoup or regroup....

Tah Tah for now...

I know I said we'd start on Monday, well I think its Monday again today...... Ever had those days? If this is any indication as to how the rest of the week will be going. I'm in for a real treat.....Alrighty then,. since we have that behind us. Just wanted to let you know that I have missed everyone. I had a wonderful vacation, time off was very well needed and the trip was nice. My husband and I went to Myrtle Beach. I'll post a few pictures later in the week.

Let's review the next procedure that I researched.

Gastric Banding

This procedure is the second most common weight loss surgery performed by the Duke Center for Metabolic and Weight Loss Surgery. I haven't researched the stats on this procedure for the number of surgeries performed using this method in our area. But I'm sure if you wanted to research it you could probably find some numbers.

This surgery has a similar goal to Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, from what I've researched it makes the stomach smaller to reduce the amount of food you take in and to help your brain generate a feeling of fullness after eating small portions of food.

But, instead of reducing the size of your stomach, the procedure does its job by suturing an adjustable band around the top portion of the stomach. The band can be adjusted with a specialized needle -- usually in a clinic visit -- so you can have it loosened or tightened as needed to reach your weight loss goals.

Gastric banding is considered the least invasive method of weight loss surgery. The procedure can easily be reversed if necessary. This is similar to the lap band.

On February 16, 2011, the FDA approved gastric banding surgery for patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30-35 with at least one comorbid condition (diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, etc.) or 35+ without.

The requirement was previously a BMI of 35 for patients with a comorbidity and a BMI of 40 for patients without a comorbidity. This is good news for lots of people that have been trying for sometime to get approved, this should improve their chances greatly. By lowering the numbers a bit, this should open the windows up to getting approved quicker. Or I would think it would.

Here's a picture of the gastric banding procedure

Gastric banding surgery involves the following:

Using laparoscopic tools, the surgeon places an adjustable silicone band around the upper part of the stomach.

Squeezed by the silicone band, the stomach becomes a pouch with about an inch-wide outlet. After banding, the stomach can only hold about an ounce of food.

A plastic tube runs from the silicone band to a device just under the skin. Saline (sterile salt water) can be injected or removed through the skin, flowing into or out of the silicone band. Injecting saline fills the band and makes it tighter.

In this way, the band can be tightened or loosened as needed. This can reduce side effects and improve weight loss.

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding leads to loss of about 40% of excess weight, on average. Someone people who are 200 pounds overweight could expect to lose an average of 80 pounds after gastric banding. However, these results vary widely.

Gastric banding surgery has a low complication rate. The most common problems after gastric banding surgery include:

Nausea and vomiting. These can often be reduced by adjusting the tightness of the band.

Minor surgical complications occur less than 10% of the time. These include problems with the adjustment device, wound infections, or minor bleeding.

The risk of death due to gastric banding surgery is about 1 in 2,000.

Unlike gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding does not interfere with food absorption. For this reason, vitamin deficiencies are rare after gastric banding.

A little more depth into how this procedure is performed

A small incision (less than 1/2 inch) is made near the belly button. Carbon dioxide (a gas that occurs naturally in the body) is introduced into the abdomen to create a work space for the surgeon. Then a small laparoscopic camera is placed through the incision into the abdomen.

The camera sends a picture of the stomach and abdominal cavity to a video monitor. It gives the surgeon a good view of the key structures in the abdominal cavity. A few additional, small incisions are made in the abdomen. The surgeon watches the video monitor and works through these small incisions using instruments with long handles to complete the procedure. The surgeon creates a small, circular tunnel behind the stomach, inserts the gastric band through the tunnel, and locks the band around the stomach.
Clinical studies of laparoscopic (minimally invasive) bariatric surgery patients found that they felt better, spent more time doing recreational and physical activities, benefited from enhanced productivity and economic opportunities, and had more self-confidence than they did prior to surgery

This pouch holds approximately ½ cup of food, whereas the typical stomach holds about 6 cups of food. The pouch fills with food quickly, and the band slows the passage of food from the pouch to the lower part of the stomach. As the upper part of the stomach registers as full, the message to the brain is that the entire stomach is full, and this sensation helps the person to be hungry less often, feel full more quickly and for a longer period of time, eat smaller portions, and lose weight over time.

As patients lose weight, their bands will need adjustments, or “fills,” to ensure comfort and effectiveness. The gastric band is adjusted by introducing a saline solution into a small access port placed just under the skin. A specialized non-coring needle is used to avoid damage to the port membrane and prevent leakage. There are many port designs (such as high profile and low profile), and they may be placed in varying positions based on the surgeon’s preference, but are always attached (through sutures, staples, or another method) to the muscle wall in and around the diaphragm.

Adjustable gastric bands hold between 4 to 12 cc of saline solution, depending on their design. When the band is inflated with saline solution, it places pressure around the outside of the stomach. This decreases the size of the passage between the pouch created from the upper part of the stomach and the lower stomach and further restricts the movement of food. Over the course of several visits to the doctor, the band is filled until the optimal restriction has been achieved – neither so loose that hunger is not controlled, nor so tight that food cannot move through the digestive system.

The number of adjustments required is an individual experience and cannot be accurately predicted. I've had a friend that had the lap band which is similar to this one where she had to do fills and the disadvantage of this is.... You don't know how many you will need. Simply because its a trial basis until you figure out when you eat how much you eat, vs how much you don't eat.how many times you need it filled or some of the solution taken out.

This might not make sense. If you eat too much, then this will require you to have it tightend (or filled) if you don't eat enough then you will need some of the solution removed. So this will allow you to be able to eat more. And my research found that while checking with my insurance company as well as yours. You might want to present the question to them in the form of this question. "will you pay for the fills" Or a portion of them? My insurance company wouldn't pay for them. And at the time, they were $200.00 per fill/or removal. This can be costly... on your behalf.

Roux-en-Y:

This is one of the more popular procedures, In this procedure, a new gastric pouch is created at the bottom of your esophagus, using about five percent of your stomach and sealing off the rest. The pouch is then connected to your small intestine.

Your stomach will still make important digestive juices that will mix in your intestine with food from your new, egg-sized stomach. In this way, you will still be able to receive the nutrients you need from food -- but your brain will get signals of fullness much faster, and the amount of food you can consume will become smaller.

This procedure is also performed laparoscopically over 95 percent of the time.

Here is a Gastric Bypass Video that will show you how the above procedure is performed.

What To Expect After Surgery
Most people can return to their normal activities in 3 to 5 weeks.
After surgery, you have to be prepared to make big, new eating habits in how you eat:

You can eat only a few ounces of food at a time. Your new stomach will only hold a tiny amount of food.

You must eat very slowly and chew your food to mush, It was recommended to me that I chew each bite at least 15 times, yes count them. You will be surprised at how long it actually takes you to chew it up. And this is good. Even if you haven't had this surgery, this is a good rule of thumb. Otherwise, you may vomit often and have pain.

You won't be able to drink for 30 minutes before you eat, during your meal, and for 30 minutes after you eat. I've mentioned this before and the importance of it. There won't be room in your stomach for both drinks and solid food.

You probably will need to take vitamins and supplements. This is something that your doctor will advise you on. Everyone is different. When I first had this surgery I had to crush up my pills or split them so that I could actually swallow them.

You may have to avoid foods that contain simple sugars-like candy, juices, ice cream, condiments, and soft drinks. Simple sugars may cause a problem called dumping syndrome. This happens because food moves too quickly through the stomach and intestines. It can cause shaking, sweating, dizziness rapid heart rate, and often severe diarrhea.

How Well It Works:

It has been found during my research that most people who have had gastric bypass surgery quickly begin to lose weight and continue to lose weight for up to 12 months. One study noted that people lost about one-third of their excess weight (the weight above what is considered healthy) in 1 to 4 years. Some of the lost weight may be regained.

I lost most of my weight within 9months and have maintained it. Until I became complacent, I then lost focus and have gained 30 lbs during the last year. But I have grabbed it and I'm down 12 lbs by getting ahold of it and getting back to the basics. I started the 5 day pouch test again, this has helped me tremendously and have began to exercise daily. It's so important to stay on top of things, Just because I got a little distracted isn't an excuse.... I have to hold myself accountable. My health depends on it.
The laparoscopic approach showed similar results, with 69% to 82% of excess weight lost over 12 to 54 months.

Risks:
Their are risks common to all surgeries for weight loss include an infection in the incision, a leak from the stomach into the abdominal cavity or where the intestine is connected (resulting in an infection called peritonitis), and a blood clot in the lung (pulonary embolish). About one-third of all people having surgery for obesity develop gallstones or a nutritional deficiency condition such as anemia or osteoporosis. To prevent this my doctor suggested that I have lab work completed every 6 months, and take the calcium citrate to help with the osteoporosis.

Fewer than 10 out of 1000 people die after weight-loss surgery. I really researched the statistics on this one.

These are some of the risks that I found that "could" happen After a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, once again, depends on each individual.

An iron and vitamin B12 deficiency occurs more than 30% of the time. About 50% of those with an iron deficiency develop anemia.** I have the B12 deficiency this is one of the reasons for my lab work.**

The connection between the stomach and the intestines narrows (stomal stenosis) 5% to 15% of the time, leading to nausea and vomiting after eating.

Ulcers develop 5% to 15% of the time.

The staples may pull loose.

Hernia may develop.

The bypassed stomach may enlarge, resulting in hiccups and bloating. Hiccups have been a favorite of mine, especially when I don't chew my food good. I have also found that I have hiccups when eating fresh bread, mostly rolls from Logans. Needless to say, I stay away from them. If we go, I will "pinch" a piece off just for the taste, and I mean a pinch. Because if I eat a larger piece, it gets stuck, or in other words feels like I'm choking and it will not stay down. And I get to do a mystery shop on how clean their restrooms are.

Here are a few things to think about:

Gastric bypass surgery may increase your chances of living longer. Some studies show that people who have had weight-loss surgery have a smaller chance of dying of heart problems, diabetes or cancer.
In a gastric bypass, the part of the intestine where many minerals and vitamins are most easily absorbed is bypassed. Because of this, you may have a deficiency in iron, calcium, magnesium, or vitamins. This can lead to long-term problems, such as osteoporosis. To prevent vitamin and mineral deficiencies, you may need to work with a dietitian to plan meals, and you may need to take extra vitamin B12 as pills, shots, or nasal spray. **I currently take the B12 pills once a week and give myself 1 B12 injection once a month**

There is also a possibility that you may develop gallstones after gastric bypass. Sometimes the gallbladder is removed as part of the surgery. But if your gallbladder is not removed, then you may need to take medicine to prevent gallstones. I have found that with my gallbladder that if I eat broccoli and cauliflower that I have extreme difficulties. These are a couple of my most favorite veggies. I have tried eating them raw and steamed, either way they just do not like my new system. So when I eat them I have a pepcid tablet.

Advantage of the laparoscopic approach to surgery for obesity suggest that it reduces recovery time and postsurgery complications.

I hope that you will find some good information from this that will help you. I'll come back again and we'll discuss the next procedure Gastric Banding.

tah tah for now.

enjoy your day
